Do You Need a DJ or a Playlist? Here's the Difference
When planning a party or an event, music is a must—but should you go with a live DJ or just hit play on a playlist? Both options have their perks, but deliver completely different experiences. Here’s the memo to help you decide which is right for you.
The Power of a Live DJ
A DJ does more than just play songs. We read the room and ensure to adapt and keep the energy flowing…and we always throw in favourite to tease the crowd before an epic wrap up. Whether your crowd wants to dance, chill, enjoy some atomsphere elevating music or go absolutely mental, a DJ responds in real-time—no awkward silences, no skipped beats…and no spotify or soundcloud ADs (unless you want a cheeky mention of your sponsors). We can also handle announcements, take requests, and adjust the set on the fly.
Perks of hiring a DJ:
Custom music tailored to your event (this can be pre-organised by the DJ or you can collaborate in this choice too)
Smooth transitions & professional mixing suited to the vibe
Real-time crowd control and vibe management
Equipment, lights, mic and other options
Less stress—you can enjoy your night and leave the vibe in good hands
But i could just make a playlist…right?
A playlist can be a good option for casual or low-key non-professional gatherings where music is less of a focus. It’s a budget-friendly option and easy to set up, especially if you have a bluetooth speaker and a streaming service (at least the basic subscription to avoid awkward AD breaks haha). But it lacks the dynamic energy and adaptability of a live DJ.
Perks of a playlist:
No cost (just time consuming finding the music to ensure no dips or lulls in the playlist)
Good for background sound & add atomsphere
Simple setup for small gatherings or dinners
So…Which one is Best for my event?
If you're planning a wedding, birthday, club event, or anything where music is central —a DJ is the best option for you. For intimate dinners or chill hangouts, a playlist might be enough.
Still unsure? Let’s chat about your event, and I’ll help you figure out what works best. Sometimes, I even offer hybrid options that combine both! (e.g. house / UKG and more)
